UPSC Notification 2023: UPSC has released the Civil Services Exam 2023 Notification to fill up 1105 vacancies. Candidates can check the IAS Prelims exam date, application form start and last date, vacancies details, selection process and other details.

UPSC 2023 Notification:
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification and activated the online application for Civil Service Exam (CSE) 2023 or Indian Administration Service Exam 2023 (IAS 2023) at upsc.gov.in. Candidates who have graduated can submit their UPSC CSE Application Form on or before 21 Feb 2023 on UPSC Online Website - upsconline.nic.in. It is essential for the applicant to register himself/herself first at One Time Registration (OTR), and then proceed for filling up the online application for the examination. UPSC Notification 2023 (Released) for 1105 Civil Services Exam (CSE) Posts: Apply @upsc.gov.in



This year, UPSC will fill up a total of 1105 UPSC vacancies which include 37 vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category, 15 Vacancies for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; and 10 Vacancies for multiple disabilities from amongst persons. This year, UPSC is also conducting the exam for recruitment in Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS).

Candidates who would apply for UPSC IAS 2023 Recruitment will be called to appear for CSE Prelims Exam which is scheduled to be held on 28 May 2023 (Sunday). Thereafter, the UPSC mains exam will be held for the candidates who qualify the prelims followed by an interview. 54 UPSC exam centres have been allotted for UPSC Prelims exam 2023.

How to Apply for UPSC 2023 Civil Service Exam?

UPSC 2023 Civil Services form can be filled in online mode only on the UPSC website. The steps to apply for UPSC CSE 2023 exam is as follows:
  • Go to the official website of UPSC and click on exam notification.
  • Register on OTR (One Time Registration) portal by Clicking the New Registration button.
  • After registration, login using Email ID/ Mobile Number/ OTR ID to verify the already registered OTR application.
  • Go to the Latest Notification tab in the OTR application.
  • Apply for desirable Examination.

UPSC 2023 Eligibility Criteria

It is mandatory for every candidate to fulfill the UPSC eligibility to fill out the UPSC CSE application form. The details about the UPSC CSE eligibility have been explained to you in the table below. Check UPSC age limit, number of attempts, qualification and nationality.

Educational Qualification for UPSC CSE:

The candidate should be a graduate from any discipline to be able to apply for UPSC 2023 exam. There is no minimum percentage required for graduation. However, Degree in Engineering / Degree in Commerce/ Chartered Accountancy is required for IRMS 2023.

UPSC Nationality:

  1. For IAS, IFS, IPS - A candidate must be a citizen of India.
  2. For other services - A candidate must be either:a citizen of India, or
  • a subject of Nepal, or
  • a subject of Bhutan, or
  • a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.


UPSC 2023 Number of Attempts

The candidate can attempt the UPSC IAS Exam six times. However, candidates who belong to SC/ST category can appear at unlimited times and OBC category candidates can attend 9 times. An attempt in the UPSC Prelims will also be deemed to be an attempt to the UPSC CSE.

UPSC 2023 Selection Process

The UPSC 2023 selection process consists of three stages as state below.

UPSC IAS Prelims 2023: The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) will be conducted for the candidates who would apply for the exam.

UPSC IAS Mains 2023: Those who clear the UPSC CSE Pre Exam will be called for the Civil Services (Main) Examination for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts.

UPSC IAS Interview 2023: UPSC interview is the last round for the selection meant to test the applicant’s critical thinking.


UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2023

UPSC exam pattern 2023 is divided into three stages, Prelims, Mains and Interview. The UPSC Prelims exam pattern is described below here. 

Subject - There will be two papers (General Studies and CSAT)

Number of Questions and Marks: GS will have 100 questions for 200 marks and CSAT will have 80 questions for 200 marks

Time - Each paper will be given 2 hours to complete the test

Negative Marking - 1/3 mark shall be deducted for every incorrect answer

Only those candidates who qualify the USC Prelms exam will be eligible to appear for the Mains exam. The main exam will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects set out in sub-section (B) of Section II out of which two papers will be of qualifying in nature. UPSC 2023 Interview

The last stage of the UPSC exam is the UPSC interview/personality test. It is mandatory for every candidate who qualifies the UPSC CSE mains to appear in the interview as its marks will be counted to determine the merit list of the candidates. The Interview/Personality Test will carry 275 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).

UPSC Admit Card 2023

UPSC will release the UPSC Civil Service 2023 Admit Card three weeks before the commencement of the examination on the official website of UPSC Online i.e. https://upsconline.nic.in. UPSC CSE Pre Admit Card shall be released in the month of May 2023. One would need to login to the UPSC website to download UPSC CSE Admit Card 2023.

UPSC Result 2023

UPSC will release the PDF containing the details of all shortlisted candidates on its official website after conducting the exam.
